Cowgirls battle for the win against Kealakehe in first game of the season

Keiko Yamura, Reporter

The Cowgirls traveled to Kealakehe on Wednesday to compete against the Waveriders in the first game of the varsity softball season. This game would come to be a very close matchup during the beginning of the game with the Cowgirls up only 2-1 by the top of the fourth inning. However, after Kealakehe changed out pitcher Kiara Cantiberos for outfielder Kesha Mori, things quickly shifted into a whole new ball game.

As Mori was still working to find her rhythm on the mound, the Cowgirls were consistently touching her ball and rounding the bases.

Cowgirls pitcher Mikayla Kekoa went up to bat with bases loaded hitting a grand slam and adding four runs to the board.

The Cowgirls worked very hard to end the game with 13 runs to Kealakehe’s 7.

This game was hopefully a preview into what the rest of the season will be like for the Cowgirls. Next up for the softball girls is a home game against HPA at Kamehameha Park at 3 p.m on Tuesday. Good luck to everyone playing sports this season!
