Canoe for Kohala

Destiny Souze, Reporter

Hokani Maria, a student here at Kohala High and proud Hawaiian, is creating an opportunity for the community to learn a little more about their native ways of transportation.

Hokani along with his partner Aunty Amoo have a goal to teach the community about travel by building a canoe. Hokani believes that this project is a fun way to uphold the culture and educate community members on this means of transportation, and further more, it’s a way to keep our community in touch with its history.

Hokani is able to bring this project to life thanks to the Dreamstarter grant he received. He hopes to begin his project very soon and I, for one, can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our community.
