KHS Students Attend Health Workshop

Four students from Mr. Kometani’s Health Services class had the privilege to attend a health workshop at Kealakehe High last week. Seniors Domenic Defiesta, Jovi Antonio, Jordelle Antonio, and Kristine Antonio got to learn an array of skills and gain knowledge.  The workshop was put on by UH Hilo students from the nursing program, including former KHS teacher Ms. Bunyi.

The four seniors went from station to station in the Kealakehe Cafeteria learning with students from all over the Big Island. They learned how to cast broken bones which the students really enjoyed. Other things on the agenda were learning how to stitch cuts, nutritious eating, and preventing STD’s.  Domenic said, “It was really fun and I got to learn a lot of new stuff.”

Mr. Kometani’s health services classes provide students with a background in the medical field. Kometani is a former EMT that has given him many first hand experiences that he teaches from. It has been a popular class over the past couple of years especially for students looking into nursing and those wanting CPR certification.
