September is National Suicide Prevention Month

Pililai Kaai, Reporter

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is the action of intentionally taking one’s own life. This past year it is estimated that 3.7% of the U.S. population had suicidal thoughts, 1.0% developed a suicide plan, and 0.5% attempted suicide.

Suicide is a very important issue all around our country and the prevention starts with us.  This month and all the ones following it, take a stand to reach out to others in the halls, force yourself to be just a little bit nicer to everyone, and if you’re having suicidal thoughts speak up because we value all our Kohala High School students.

If you feel you are in crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.
