Why are schools open in the Puna district?

Damian Maria, Reporter

I know you’ve all heard about the lava flow in the Puna area, but did you know that the schools in the Puna district are still open? Indeed they are; I have relatives that go to Pahoa High and I think it is ridiculous that they kept the schools open. When knowing that having the school open puts the teachers and the kids health at risk, due to the sulfuric acid. Although they have decided to let the schools in the city remain open, the authorities have left it up to parents to decide whether or not to send their children to school. But shouldn’t they just close all the schools instead of risking people’s safety? Because I believe so!
