Banning cigarettes

In 2016, Hawaii became the first state to ban cigarettes to anyone under 21.The state Legislature now wants cigarette sales to be effectively banned by 2024.The ban will start progressively by changing the age to 30 in 2020, and by 2022, the age limit will be anyone 50 and older can buy cigarettes. And the plan is  two years later, no one under 100 will be allowed to buy cigarettes. So far it passed its first reading last week, a procedural hurdle, and has been assigned to committees. But it doesn’t have a hearing yet. The House Bill 1509 sponsor Richard Creagan who is a emergency room doctor has said to Hawaii Tribune-Herald “Basically, we essentially have a group who are heavily addicted — in my view, enslaved by a ridiculously bad industry — which has enslaved them by designing a cigarette that is highly addictive, knowing that it highly lethal. And, it is.”
