Eleven principals across the state will be attending a luncheon this weekend as finalists for the 2012 Masayuki Tokikoka Excellence in School Leadership Awards. The event is held to recognize public school principals who go above and beyond to make sure their schools provide high quality education. The grand prize winner receives $10,000 for personal use and $15,000 for a school project.

Mrs. Janette Snelling of our very own Kohala High School has been named a finalist and is no doubt a worthy one. The school this year has seen so many positive improvements in just her first year of being the principal. Her upbeat and youthful approach to administration is one that appeals to the high school students.

“I was very happy to see Mrs. Snelling return to the high school this year and there have been a lot of positive changes,” stated English teacher Colleen Pasco.

The winner will be announced on Saturday in Honolulu and the staff of Ka Leo Na Opio wishes our principal the best of luck.
