Kohala High Teacher Ms. Melody Nietfeld recently finished the Boston Marathon 46th in her age group with a time of 4:12:56. CONGRATULATIONS MS. NIETFELD! What an amazing triumph!

Upon her return, Ms. Nietfeld spoke to her two guidance classes about her struggles and triumphs. The mass of people was the most surprising to her and also, how many spectators turned out for the blazing hot event. “The ground was completely covered with paper cups from all the participants,” stated Ms. Nietfeld. Another thing that caught her attention were the military men who ran and finished the marathon in full uniform with packs and all. “One man ran the whole race holding an American flag,” she exclaimed. Ms. Nietfeld found herself in a bit of a slump with about a mile left when she twisted her ankle running across railroad tracking but decided to persevere since she was so close to finishes, which she did. When asked whether she’d do the race again, she replied “when I first finished I said no not ever but now that I think about it, yes, yes I would.” Congratulations again Ms. Nietfeld!
