Cowboys Start the Winter Sport Season With a Bang

The winter sport season is always busy and jam-packed with several games a week. This year, swimming has also been added to the schedule. At the Kona Community Aquatic Center, this past saturday, the swim team had their second meet of the season. Damien Kaholo took 23rd in the men’s 50 freestyle with fellow freshmen Jayven Amonance, Nathan Canionero-Caravalho, and Ford Clark finishing after.Kohala Freshmen Yuki Zbytovsky took 7th in the women’s 50 freestyle with sophomore Kassie Kometani finishing in first. Other events swam that day included the 100 free, 100 backstroke, and the 100 breaststroke. Overall it was a successful day for the new Kohala High swimmers.

On January 5th, playing on their home field, the girl’s soccer team had their first win of the season against Christian Liberty Academy. Players Genevieve Boyle, Sharisse Sniffen, Katy Rix, and Riley Uehana each made a goal for a final score of 4-2. Way to go Cowgirls!

The boys varsity basketball team pulled out a close win against Kealakehe on Monday. The game was a nail-biter, with a final score of 74-71. They boys have had a great start to their season now sealing a win against the Waveriders. Keep it up Cowboys!
