Congratulations Gabrielle, Michael, and Skyler!

Held this past weekend at the Farimont Orchid was the BIIF state championships for high school tennis. Kohala had a great start to the tournament with 5 players seated. Gabrielle Bartolome was seated 7th for girls single as a freshmen and her brother Michael Bartolome and partner Skyler Marcom were seated 8th for boys doubles. Also, girls double’s duo Kassie Kometani and Isabel Steinhoff were seated 7th. The entire Kohala High tennis team at competed in the prelims of BIIF’s but only a few moved on to the quarterfinals. The seated players were able to win their first matches and move on to the next day. The Bartolome’s, Marcom, Kometani, and Steinhoff all had to play the top seated players. Although they lost, they were given two more chances to qualify for the Sate Championship. Gabrielle Bartolome was able to pull out a win and make it to States while her brother Michael and partner Skyler also won and qualified for States. Unfortunately, sophomores Kassie Kometani and Isabel Steinhoff just missed out on making it, they finished 8th overall after a loss to Kamehameha.

The Tennis State Championships will take place from May 2-4 at the Fairmont Orchid. We wish the Kohala players the best of luck!
