Track: State Finals Conflict With Testing

Josiah Adams, Reporter

Track season is coming to an end,  and the runners  of the KHS track team have been showing potential for states.  However, due to AP testing, Junior runners Genevieve Boyle and Josiah Adams will most likely be unable to compete at states should they qualify.  Freshmen runner Gabriella Boyle may very well be alone in representing Kohala High School in the 200m and/or 400m races.  It is unfortunate that the case is that two runners who are exhibiting states potential will be unable to compete should they qualify. But there is also a lot of hope in Gabriella Boyle, as she is a very strong runner.

Besides the conflicting test dates, the track team has also struggled with injuries, losing runners, and a not so pleasant track to run on.  At the start of the season, the team numbered at seven runners.  However, over time, various factors lead 4 runners to leave the team.   Ms. Katie Lambeth has high hopes that the track program will grow significantly, and has even begun to speak with potential athletes who have showed interest.  With a year to recruit, hopefully her efforts will be successful.
