If you are a married woman and seek fertility treatment, there’s a good chance that it’ll be covered by insurance. If you’re a single woman and seek fertility treatment the you’re out of luck.

Insurance companies in Hawaii are only required to cover married woman’s fertility treatments; single woman are not included. Additionally, treatments must use sperm from the patient’s spouse.

Claiming that the law discriminates against single woman, a single woman attempted to change the law. However, a push in Legislature to to expand coverage died on last Thursday.
