Kohala Dodges Hurricane

Hurricane Iselle did no major damage to the Kohala community, 2 weeks ago Thursday and Friday. All schools on the Big Island had their first week back from summer cut short, in preparation of both hurricanes Iselle and Julio. Kohala school was being used a shelter for the upcoming storm.

Thankfully, there was no major damage on this side of the island, and all seems to be well. The storm hit the Puna area the hardest, where many homes were without power and fallen trees blocked roads. Kohala high school were collecting water for these people a week ago and had asked everyone to bring water bottles to the school library for distribution. The back-to-back hurricanes, and the earthquake measuring 4.5 was certainly a big event to start the school year with!
