Snow, Winter Storm and High Wind for Big Island

Valerie Hageraats, Reporter

On the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa there are currently high wind warnings as well as a winter storm warning up till 6 PM Thursday (March 12, 2015). The winds are between 40 and 55 mph, but could get as high as 50 to 60, even 80 mph. The road is closed as well, and because of the difficult conditions it is unknown when it will be opened again. They say that a foot of snow may be possible, but will probably be more like 6 to 7 inches, according to Hawaii News Now. People wanting to go up to the mountains to enjoy the fresh snow will have to wait a bit longer. The weather has been crazy; hopefully it will warm up just in time for spring break!
