Oil Disaster

Chyenne Book, Reporter

In Goleta, California more than 7,700 gallons of oil are in the ocean. It stretches to 9 miles along the California coast. The oil is said to be from a broken pipeline in the ocean. So far, there is no harm to the birds and sea life, but this is just the beginning. The oil is in a channel where whales, dolphins, sea lions, seals, sea otters and birds such as pelicans live.

The pipe is a 24 inch pipe built in 1991. The pipe is said not to have any previous problems in the past. The company said that the pipe was inspected in 2012 and was said to have no problems.

So far, there is no estimate of what the cost will be for the clean up. But, hopefully somebody finds a solution to this soon before the problem becomes worse.
