Jashel Jose, Reporter

Calling all the Cowboys and Cowgirls of Kohala High School. We have great news for you! Kohala High School is launching a new program, called AVID for Athletes. What is AVID for Athletes, you may ask? AVID for Athletes is an elective class that will help athletes to thrive within their sport and will offer academic support, in terms of using their sport skills and their everyday performance.

This class will be conducted by Mr. Dan Leitner,  our P.E teacher at Kohala High School. According to Mr. Leitner, the main purpose of this elective class is to “help athletes with goal setting, and the direction they want to go to in sports.”  He also mentioned that this class will also help athletes build up their performance and perseverance.

Students will earn one credit for this class over the course of the school year. However, they are required to commit a full school year. They are also required to maintain a 2.0 GPA (Grade Point Average), or higher. AVID for Athletes class will meet three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The class will start on Friday, August 7, during the resource period from, 12:19 PM to 1:04 PM.
