The Creation Of Cyber Monday

Angelique Kokal, Reporter

Cyber Monday is the marketing day for the first Monday after Thanksgiving. The designation “Cyber Monday” was generated by marketing companies to sway people to shop online.

The deals on Cyber Monday are generally offered by lesser retailers that cannot compete with large retailers. On the past couple of Cyber Mondays, there was an average of 45% more apparel deals compared to Black Friday. There were about 50% more shoe deals on Cyber Monday as well. Black Friday typically presents better deals on technology, with approximately 85% more data storage deals than Cyber Monday. The former Black Fridays offered more deals for cutlery, small appliances, and kitchen tools than Cyber Monday on average.

The title “Cyber Monday” was conceived by Ellen Davis on Nov 28, 2005, in a press release. The title was initially introduced within the ecommerce community during the 2005 holiday season.

Cyber Monday has evolved into a international marketing period, used by online marketers across the nations and continues to grow and develop as the years pass by.
