Happy Groundhog Day!

February 2nd, 2016 marks the famous Groundhog Day!

According to legend, if a groundhog called Punxsutawney  Phil sees his shadow, winter will hold out for six more weeks. If not, then winter will end at it’s normal time. The belief was also widely spread in 1993 by the film of the same name, in which the protagonist relives the same day over and over, with him experimenting with different things each day.

The titular groundhog goes by the name Phil. He lives in his very own den with a library, where people can observe him. On Groundhog Day every year, he is brought out by the town’s former paper editor, Clymer Freas, who translates his language and announces to the giant crowd whether he saw his shadow or not.

This year, Phil predicted that an early spring will come! Hooray!
