Visitor killed after jumping South Point

The death of a visitor occurred yesterday on the Big Island.

According to the Hawaii Fire Department, a 36 year old man jumped the 20 ft. cliff at South Point. It was also said that conditions were especially dangerous that day because of high surf.

Witnesses say he was trying to climb up some rocks when he was swept away by large waves. His body was found 5 hours later.

Authorities have not released his identity.

Due to this occurrence, I hope more people exercise caution when jumping this massive cliff. If currents ever seem too strong, always be sure to stay out of the ocean. Better safe than sorry. Stay safe!
