2016 White Cane Safety Awareness Day

This Friday, October 21st, a very special celebration known as White Cane Safety Awareness Day will be observed.  Many blind school students in Kona and  Hilo will participate  in the 24th annual white cane march. It will take place at Queen Liliuokalani Park in Hilo at 9:00 A.M.

White Cane Day was proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson  on October 15, 1964. White canes empower blind and visually impaired students to become more independent, build their confidence, and enjoy their freedom. White canes can warn and make people aware when they are out on the road.

White Cane Day celebration will be held on Oahu at the State Capitol Rotunda on Friday also.
