2016 Hawaiian Songwriting Festival

On Friday, October 21st, a Hawaiian song writing workshop was held at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea on the Big Island.

An opening ceremony began with a traditional Hawaiian welcome protocol presentation, a Hawaiian blessing from a Native Hawaiian practitioner, and hula to honor Doctor Larry Kimura, a composer, and revival of old Hawaiian music of Waimea.

The workshops lasted through Saturday with a full concert during the evening from 6:30 until 9:30 P.M.

Musicians included Lito Archangel, Kamakoa Lindsey of Maui, and Kainani Kahaunaele from Hilo.

If you plan to attend next years Hawaiian Songwriting workshop or listen to the full concert, you can get tickets at the front entrance to the theater a week ahead before the concert which will be scheduled for Saturday evening.
