Why are people wearing safety pins after Trump won the election?

Safety pins are a symbol of solidarity with victims of hate crimes. The idea of wearing safety pins originally started in the UK, the safety pin is to show that you are a “safe place” and a person people can trust and seek out when they’re in need of help or feel uncomfortable in the environment that they are in.
